Refresh Your Home on a Budget

I am always looking for new ways to spruce up my home. I don’t know if you all are like I am, but I just have to switch up the furniture and décor around my house every once in a while or things just feel stale. Here are some ideas on how to make some easy changes that won’t break the bank:

I. Layer your rugs. If you love antique rugs but can’t afford one that fits the size of room you need, why not find a less expensive jute or another flat surfaced rug and layer the more expensive colorful antique rug on top of that. This way you are still filling up your space but doing it at a lower cost.

II. Paint a ceiling in one of your home’s spaces. Paint a pop of color on your ceiling and see how it changes the whole feel of the room!

III. Or, give your wooden or brick fireplace a fresh coat of white paint and see how it brightens an otherwise darker room!

IV. If you’re looking for a way to update your kitchen, change out your drawer handles or cabinet knobs. This can really help make your cabinets feel new again.

V. Change out your smaller home accessories such as your decorative pillows, throws and small items on your coffee or end tables. (Try one of two of the DIY’s I have on my website page). You can also add a more luxurious look by combining pillows of different textures and colors.

VI. Or how about changing out your lighting? To brighten up a space, swap old fixtures for new, or to add a calming effect to a space, change out your light bulbs to a warm yellowish toned bulb. And you can even take it one step further by adding a dimmer switch to some of your main lights.

VII. Did you know they now sell removable wallpaper? Wallpaper has become all the rage lately. Why not give it a try? Experiment on a small wall and expand out from there!

VIII. If you have a space that you want to separate from the other areas of your home, purchase an inexpensive folding screen. Or better yet, DIY your own screen! Be creative!

IX. Change out your window treatments. You can make very easy window coverings from clearance material and round curtain holders. Just layer the material across the top of the window, wrapped around the round curtain holders and then draped down the sides of the window. Very easy and inexpensive way to update the look of your windows. Or better yet, remove the coverings and try going without coverings or purchase some inexpensive but classy looking blinds for an even different look.

X. Bring the outside in. Plants, plants and more plants! They are always a great addition to any home, both inside and out!

XI. Enlarge the feel of your room by adding mirrors. Hang a large mirror on a wall or be creative and add different sizes and shapes of mirrors to make a decorative wall of mirrors!

XII. Looking for ways to clear up that clutter? Why not look at garage or estate sales, your local goodwill or even the Dollar tree for nice containers or bins to collect and hide your items. And while you’re at it, why not go through your clutter items and think about what you might want to donate.

XIII. Switch plate covers.. you can find some really fun and colorful switch plate covers at your local hardware or hobby store.

I hope that some of these ideas will at the very least, inspire you to make even just one little change to your home!
